A solar generator is a portable power station paired with solar panels, marketed for the camp and overland crowd. The appeal is obvious: silent operation, no gasoline to haul or spill, and clean power for electronics that a gas generator's noise and exhaust would ruin. The buying decisions come down to the same specs, applied to camp loads.
Why solar over a gas generator at camp
Gas generators are loud, smell, need fuel storage, and cannot run inside a tent or enclosed space because of carbon monoxide. A solar generator is silent, emits nothing, and can sit beside your sleeping bag. The tradeoff is that it stores a finite amount of energy and refills only as fast as the sun and your panels allow, so sizing matters more than with a fuel-fed unit you can simply top off.
For most campers the silence alone settles it. A quiet campsite and clean power for phones, cameras, and a fridge outweigh the convenience of pouring gasoline, especially where fire restrictions or noise rules apply.
Sizing to real camp loads
Camp loads are modest but add up over a multi-day trip. A 12V fridge, phone and camera charging, LED string lights, a fan, and perhaps a CPAP at night form the typical list. Total their watt-hours per day and multiply by the number of days between meaningful sun to find your minimum capacity.

Camp gear takes abuse. Look for a sturdy case, protected ports, and a manageable weight for the way you travel, whether that is carrying it from a car or mounting it in an overland rig.
